Distributions
We distribute community-donated food and USDA commodities from four locations in Nevada County throughout the month. To sign up, come to the distribution site closest or most convenient to you. Bring a form of ID and proof of residence (such as a piece of mail with your name and address on it). You will be signed up when you get there. We ask our clients to attend one distribution a month and also to attend the same distribution location each month unless you notify us about the change.
Emergency Food
Life is full of unexpected events and hardships. Because of this, we offer emergency food from our warehouse Monday through Thursday from 9AM to 2:30PM. During this time, anyone who needs help can get it. We do not have income guidlines for emergency food and have a policy that no one is turned away without food. The choice to get emergency food if you missed your distribution is there, but we ask our clients to chose one or the other and not expect to get both in one month. If you need emergency food, please call first to let us know you are coming. The phone number is (530)272-3796.
Outreach
If you are unable to make it to our distributions due to a medical condition and qualify for USDA commodities based on the
income guidlines, then you are eligible to be on our Outreach program. If you are interested in signing up for Outreach or know someone else who qualifies and can use the aid of this program, please call the thrift store at (530)274-7037 on Monday, Wednesday or Friday and ask for Susan, or call the office at (530)272-3796 during business hours or leave a message. We require a doctors note to verify that the client is homebound.
Project H.O.P.E.
During the summer months, we distribute healthy lunches and snacks to the summer recreation program in Memorial Park that is administered by
Sierra Nevada Children's Services. You may contact
SNCS to find out about enrolling your child in the program. We also distribute lunches to the Oakridge apartments and the three other low-income apartment buildings located on Sutton Way.
During the school year, we distribute nutritious snacks to fifteen different school sites in Nevada County. Contact your child's school to find out if they have a program receiving services from the Food Bank and if your child is eligible to attend. If the school has a program that you feel could use our help, you can contact the instructor and let them know about our program. If you are an instructor with a program or classroom that you feel can use the help of Project H.O.P.E., please contact our office at (530)272-3796, Monday through Thursday from 9
AM to 2:30
PM or leave a message and we will get back to you.
