Warehouse: Take Hwy 49/20 to the Brunswick exit. Go East towards Cedar Ridge on Brunswick Road for 1.6 miles until you see Loma Rica on your left [where the old airport used to be located]. Go 0.6 miles on Loma Rica until you see Evening Star or your right [it's the first marked road on the right]. Evening Star is almost like a little alley and just as soon as you turn onto this road you will see a sign for Volz Brothers Auto Service on the end of a warehouse. You'll have to rurn right down a little hill to get into the parking lot. We are located in the same building as Volz Brothers, just on the opposite end. There are two big trucks and a huge sign on our warehouse with our logo's on them. When we're open the doors are usually up and people are milling about so just walk right up, don't be shy! The address is 12048 Charles Dr, #9, Grass Valley.
Thrift Store: Take Hwy 49/20 to the Brunswick exit. Head East towards Cedar Ridge on Brunswick Road for 3.3 miles. Turn left onto Colfax Highway/CA 174. The Thrift Store will be on your right. Formerly the Women of Worth Gift & Thrift, we are located right next door to Apple Alley, in the same parking lot as Dupree's Bakery. The address is 13467 Colfax Hwy, Grass Valley.
What are your hours?
How are you funded?
67% of our annual income comes from private donations from community members in Nevada County and grants from private organizations. The rest comes from government organizations including FEMA and USDA.
What are the requirements to get food?
To sign up for USDA distributions, find out if you qualify based on the income guidlines. If you do, all you have to do is bring ID and proof of residence to show that you live in Nevada County (like a piece of mail with your name and address on it) to the distribution site most convenient for you. You will need to attend the same distribution site each time you go.
For Emergency Food, you dont need to bring anything, and no one will be turned away without food. Please call our warehouse in advance to let us know you are coming. (530)272-3796
What should I donate?
Non-perishable goods are always needed at the Food Bank. This includes canned food items, dried beans, soup, pasta, peanut butter, cereal, and many other items. We ask that people donate food that they would be willing to eat as well. We also accept most household items and clothes at our Thrift store. Profits from the Thrift Store benefit the clients of Nevada County. We also help clients who need help furnishing their homes, providing clothes, or getting assistance with things like back to school items. And of course, we are always in need of monetary donations.
Can I host a food drive?
Absolutely! We would love to help you hold a food drive. Call our office at (530) 272-3796 and talk to our staff about getting what you need to pull it off. We can provide you with barrels, informational flyers, banners and more.
